In the past, I got so disgusted with Tascam boards I developed a genuine loathing that I've usually saved for specific junior Marine infractions or senior Marine abuse. The last Tascam board I had was a "studio" board that I literally poured gasoline on and lit a match cackling as it melted.

Now I'm poking around the web late last night trying to figure out what I'm going to do if my HD24XR dies (after my recent scare). I find these:

[[url=http://="http://Tascam.com/p…"]Product: HS-P82 | Tascam[/]="http://Tascam.com/p…"]Product: HS-P82 | Tascam[/]

I don't know prices or anything. I'm having a hard time getting past my Tascam prejudices to even look too hard. Anyone have any idea what kind of quality to expect from brand new alleged flagship gear from Tascam these days?

Yeah. We had a bunch of DA88's at my Marine Band. It was the studio board that got me so torqued.

I took the rig out for the first job last Sunday and had HD issues. First I couldn't get anything which turned out to be a bad light cable. Then I had some incessant whine that ruined my backup tracks. A couple days later I got out the cases at the house and went through it all. Took it apart and blew the bunnies out, found a loose harness, cleaned the hdd caddy connectors. I ended up with a factory reset and got it to work. Except I can't get it to lock through the Toslink with my 800R at 88.2 or 96. It locks fine with the FF800 though and that is the crucial factor. I could just skip the toslink and go analog but then I'd have to rethink my setup and AD/DA. I'm also thinking about getting an external word clock. Anyway, all gear must eventually pass so I've perusing possibilities. The JoeCo doesn't look like exactly what I want-especially at their price point. And I'm president of the department of redundancy department! (other than the wife saw the open cases yesterday and asked what this one (p2analog) did that that one doesn't (p8)? :^o. That'll teach me to open too many cases at home!

So I just found some MSRP's for the HS-P82 & HS-8. Both of these are in the way high end category for price. $5000 and $7000 respectively. I guess I had Tascam confused with a different company altogether ^_^ You could buy two JoeCo boxes for that or just go with a Sound Devices 788T or stack a couple of MR-2000s's. I'm still interested in hearing about them from reliable sources.

Not a scientific review by any means but at least something.
