What's good? Just got a laptop I can use while traveling to work on mixes while on the go. Will be moving to an Ibook in the future, but right I'm on PC running Logic Platinum 5.5.1. Any suggestions on a GOOD interface, portable, as I travel a lot and would like to take in progress mixes with me to keep things moving.

Thanks
LRG

Motu looks nice. Not bus powered if you have a portable PC though. (no laptop PC on the market today supplies bus power on FW bus). I believe mac portables supply that, but I am no expert.

So, currently, if you really want to avoid a separate wall wart for the sound card there is only USB to choose from. I have an MBox that I am happy with. There are plenty other to choose from though. Just be very sure to test with your actual computer, sound cards are notorious for not beeing compatible with every PC ever made, you simply have to test it.

I have a Motu 828mkII and really like that. Not quite as portable, but it simply plugs into the mains directly without a wall wart. Did I tell you I am beginning to hate wall warts? Firewire is a good bet on the future in my mind. And there are lots of firewire cards to select from out there.

You could try an Apogee Mini-Me. More money than an Mbox, but a different league in terms of AtoD conversion. USB interface is, of course not as high a data transfer as a FW interface, but it'll work fine for 2 channels.

I have a VX pocket sound card and use the mini-me into the S/Pdif input. Sounds great. I just finished recording a serious album project for commercial release with this setup on PT Free!
It sounds big & warm, loads of depth. Everything recorded through that little preamp.

Look out for it later this year...... Artist: The Lost Angels.

Good luck.
