ok Guys, the budget is now available and I need to decide which preamps am I going to buy. Thanks to Kurt and some other uselfull members Ive practically narrowed it down to two pre apms, the Great River MP-2NV and the Universal Audio 2-610 tube preamps. My main clients are Rock, alternative, metal and hard core bands, lots of distortion, heavy drums, screaming vocals, the works! I know the UA is a tube preamp while the Great River isn't. You guys will be my helping hand in diciding which pre's to buy. Please remember and dont have the luxury or the time two buy both systems and try them out, so lets rule out that option. Ill be using them on everything (drums, guitars, bass, vocals, etc.) Ill be using eight channels so its going to be hefty price to pay. Thanks for any help in advanced. I heard many people say to me that its better to track evrything using the same pres. Not to use one pre's for one thing and another pre for another instrument. I dont know how true is that

I would definitely say that is not true. Each instrument has its own sonic characteristics. Why would you need to use the same pre on every one of them? I would get some variety. Four of each would be fantastic in my studio. There is no doubt that is the direction I would go. Look around at studios you respect. Do they only have one type of pre? Definitely not. Even a studio who has a vintage Neve, still has outboard tube pres. You can have 4 tube pres, and 4 solid state pres, all high quality, why would you do anything else? Just my opinion. Wish I had that budget, you can't really go wrong with either.
