well hi guys here's a new topic regarding clients...well wht do you guys think that you prefer more money from the client and less quality from your side...cuz obviously when u wish to have much money you try to find and work with people who don't ask so many things regarding the work you have done for them...they normally compromise with wht u have done cuz they themselves don't believe in quality and you are happy with it. wht do ya think. abt it...
wht i do is i rarely pick clients like this. and infact those who are good artist and clients and other agencies, every fortnight i send my newest packages and offers to most of them...with the best rates they could imagine and infact i send them the rates which or sometimes equal to my cost of the production not a .1% profit. and i do quality work for them with putting more efforst and more time in it. u guys must be thinking wht a fool not going for the profit. . well wht happens is that...after working for good clients and quality output.,. moron kinna clients aur mean money spender kinna clients gets attracted that bla bla bla studio was that good or that much quality giver though they themselves don't know wht the quality is...so i try to put my hands in those people and try to balance all my previous losses from these people. simple. . whts your stories guys.

Good question.

I think you want to attract good clients who are fun to work with and serious about their work. The profit will come along later as payment for your efforts in doing the best possible job you can for them and having them return to your studio again and again.

I have found that the best clients are also the most fun to work with and their projects are well played, well recorded, well mixed and have the word QUALITY written all over them.

It has been my experience that the hardest people to satisfy are the ones that are looking for the easy way out. Their stuff sounds BAD and they are expecting me to make it sound GREAT. At the same time they make it known that they don't want me to charge them very much for my services.

In the old days my biggest PITA clients were the ones that use to call up looking for a "deal" (usually at some rate that was ridiculously low) and basically wanted me to give my services to them for nothing but when they finally arrived here they were expecting the best possible service plus they were the most demanding as to the final outcome of the mastering.

Because of these early "problem" clients I no longer discount my services and everyone pays the same price per hour. If they want my mastering talent and experience then they have to pay the going rate just like everyone else and they will get the red carpet treatment just like all my other clients.

Quality clients pay on time, are fun to work with, bring in good challenging projects that are well recorded and mixed and are the ones you WANT your name on. Less desirable clients (some call them bottom feeders) bring in a whole host of problems that they have created and want me, as the mastering engineer, to fix them for nothing and are usually the ones that are late in paying and have the biggest problems understanding what mastering can and cannot do for their project.

I really prefer the quality clients and will bend over backwards to keep them.
