If you have midi tracks already recorded in DP
and you have external synths, you need to bring the audio into your computer using an audio interface such as motu's 828, 896 or any other audio card or box. All the midi express does is to connect the midi in and out to your mac but it has nothing to do with the audio.

If you want to use a virtual instrument, such as Mach Five, inside DP and render the tracks to audio you have to set mach five to bus 1 and 2 stereo output and record in a audio track with inputs set to bus 1 and 2

the built in apple synth can not be rendered to audio, as far as I can tell. (if anyone know of a way, please chime in!)

Good luck and please let us know if you need more help!

i do have a 896, sorry i forgot to mention that....are you saying that i can't convert my midi tracks to audio using my midi express? if so, then what do you suggest i get so i can do this?

the 896 should be fine- make sure it is set up and it shows in your audio-midiset up- also go to audio bundles and make sure the input of the 896 is chosen- then it is only a matter of creating an audio track and sending the audio from your synth into the 896, routed to the audio track you have created. It is a pretty staright forard deal but if you are bypasing any step of the chain you won't get the input right- let me know how you are set up so I can help you better

I think that whatever audio/MIDI software you're using should have a manual that clearly states how to do this. It's not an uncommon procedure.

If it's a hardware sound module type thing then you will likely have to record real time on to an audio track. If you are using soft synths then you may be able to bounce directly to track/clip with out recording real time.
