Hello all,

I'm wondering which of these two synthesizers will better suit me. I like to compose electronic music and as of now am simply using Ableton Live and FL Studio, using a Yamaha M06 as a midi controller. Recently I had the chance to play around with a friend's Electribe EMX-1 and had a blast with it. I was amazed at how easy it was to pop ideas out; I came up with something like 5 good loops in a couple of hours. The way I currently write music I'm lucky to come up with a good idea every couple of days. So now I'm considering either buying one, or getting to know the M06 better.

What I'd like is something with an interface geared toward improvisation and churning out ideas quickly, which I can then take into a DAW to work with more in-depth. I'm finding that using nothing but a DAW to come up with ideas is cumbersome and time-consuming, and if I do feel inspired at a particular moment it usually wears off by the time I've perfected some chord stab in Toxic Biohazard.

As I said, I'm only using the M06 as a midi controller and have yet to dive into the manual.

Thanks for any advice.

I don't have experience with either. My advice would be to get to know the gear you have. It never hurts to be more knowledgeable about the tools already in your possession. New gear is automatic inspiration but that fades. Dig into the manual and you might find that you didn't need to spend the extra money. The M06 looks like a nice controller and far more versatile than the Electribe. Fruity Loops has way more flexibility than the Electribe can give you. Dig in to that manual too.
