I am looking for anyone who can help with this machince:AKai DPS12i. I am trying to apply compression for vocal using the internal effects. Yes, I know that outboard compression is better, but my funds are extremely limited. The manual states that you are able to apply effects to a track while applying an instert effect. I have read the manual numerous times; however, what keeps happening is this:

The track shows a recording signal; however, you cannot hear the track you are recording on while recording, and when you play the track back, what you just recorded doesn't exist.

All this is information may be a bit too much information. If anyone knows how to explain this procedure better than the manual I would greatly appreciate it. However, here is a link to the manual if needed:
