hmm there is someone use m audio fast track / fast track pro ?can u share about it with me ..actualy i just want to use it for pro tools m powered but if that thing can make a good record and mixing ..that will good too ..is there a different between fast track with fast track pro ?i mean not about how many in/out and there is a midi input and there is not ..hehe

It appears that both units use USB connections and support but don't require USB 2.0

There are many differences the Pro model has midi in/out, is a 4x4 interface (4 in 4 out) meaning it has 2 XLR preamps and has the ability to support simultaneously another 2 channels via s/pdif, some keyboards and preamps, has the ability to route outboard effects like a compressor, EQ, etc. has more monitoring choices. The other is a 2x2 (2 in 2 out) with only one xlr input, an instrument 1/4" input, no outboard effects ability, no midi , less monitoring choices. It isn't really clear but I think they have the same preamp so there won't really be a difference in recording quality. They also come bundled with different software.

fiast - I've found you often get better advice if you list a budget. You mention the possibility of other devices, but don't say how much you are willing to spend?

There are many pros and cons to different audio interfaces - and they can become a confusing mush if you don't limit that list in some ways. Believe me, I've been there. Without more detail, often your best answer is going to be "it depends".

So - how many tracks are you wanting to record?
What is your budget?
What is your goal - what are you trying to record?

Answering these questions and more will give the very skilled and knowledgeable people here more ability to help you.

Hello everyone, I'm using a fast track pro in windows 7 64bit, and I am trying to record vocals with a condenser mic into cubase. I have tried the user manual, and multiple tutorial vids, and I have done everything correctly in cubase and still get no wave forms on the audio tracks produced from my recording attempts. in other words, the rectangles that appear as i record are blank. everything is also hooked up correctly as far as the fast track pro goes also.

i've tried using a few other recording programs and i am not getting any signal from the mic in those either, although the fast track pro's signal and clip lights are working, and indicating that the soundcard is recieving an audio signal. has anyone encountered or heard of this issue? i would certainly appreciate any suggestions.

Within Cubase or any DAW session you must first enable the inputs of the device (Fast Track in this case). You must also assign the input to the individual track. Then you must arm that track for recording. Now, finally you get to press record. Within Cubase the Fast Track is controlled from the VST devices list. Within Cubase LE v1 You go to Devices-->Device Setup-->VST Multitrack-->select the ASIO from the dropdown called Fast Track or M-Audio or whatever.

yeah i did all that already before i asked, when i said everything was hooked up right, i meant hardware wise and software wise. thanks for the attempt at helping anyway though!

Well this is definitely an issue with a setting. If your DAW, any DAW, is set up correctly and you aren't getting signal and the lights are indicating signal on the interface, there is some switch or setting that is not in fact correct. M-Audio units have garbage drivers but they do work more or less. The only other place for you to look is the actual M-Audio graphical user interface. Likely you will have to access this from the Windows Control Panel but there are not a lot of settings there for this device at all. I don't own the Fast Track but did just help a buddy with one a couple of weeks ago. No doubt being physically present with the computer and device helps.

If you really want to cover all bases, you can download Reaper for free and give that a try. Reaper is lightening fast and the help files are most excellent. You could also try posting some screen shots of the Device Setup manager and also of your multitrack session itself.
