Hi everybody, I'm new on this forum.
I just have a little question:
My mixer's analog outputs (Yamaha DM1000) are connected to a pair of Mackie monitors.
Considering the quality of DM 1000 built in converters (which shouldn't be bad), how much I would benefit if I buy an external dac, like the Benchmark DAC1 or Apogee Rosetta 200 for monitoring?
I know those boxes are beautiful but also quite expensive, so I'm interested in Your opinion before making the purchase.
Is that worthwhile spending that money or it wouldn't make such a big difference in terms of sound quality?

High quality converters make a big difference, even in ways that are not immediately apparent, such as reducing listening fatigue. This is IMHO very important. It's also great to squeeze that extra bit of detail out of your source. On top of that you have improved imaging, but what's really great is the way a complex mix sounds much less cluttered -or perhaps it's more truthful to say that you'll here the difference between clutter and complexity.
BTW I would probably buy the Mini-Dac instead of the Rosetta, so you're not paying for AD converters too. But if your AD converters are not extremely good, the Rosetta will be wonderful to have. I'm still trying to decide between the Banchmark and the Mini-DAC.
