I installed a second hard drive in my new computer (purchased last year) and installed Vista on one and XP on the other. I use XP for all my music and have it very streamlined and record to the other drive. It has worked well for me allowing the use of the internet security and program availibilty of Vista while freeing a lot of resources while doing recording and mixing.

I've even made some strong efforts to purge my system of the unnecessary.
