new to the forum, and new to the world of home recording.
let me get this straight : i am a big geddy lee fan (bass player and signer of rush) - what i am basically trying to do is to reproduce his sound. (i know it's impossible - but at least i have some "fun" trying to).
here is my rig. so far, i have my beloved fender jazz bass, an orange ad200 mk3 amp, a rivera rock crusher loadbox.
i live in a condo. i am not "allowed" to make big noise. that is why i purchased the rivera load box. after all my readings, i came to the conclusion that it was the best product to suits my needs. (i first tought i was possible to play a tube amp without a cabinet - through my readings i have learned an amp needs a proper load) i've also had a lot of conversation via email with the good people of rivera in california. (i live in canada)
i received it yesterday. i have yet been able to produce any sound. (consequently, i have not heard my amp at home yet)
i think i connected all the gear properly i.e. : output of amp --->input of the rock crusher --->into my Focusrite scarlett 2i4 sound card.
i'm working with apple's garageband (because i don't know anything else).
by reading this, you understand i am just at the beginning of home recording.
i am willing to learn so any comprehensive advice will be greatly appreciated.

Well, I think you can do it from a direct input and cabinet emulators in software. I generally never even put a microphone on bass guitar cabinets. Sometimes I do? Most of the time I don't. Though I might take both when I can get both. But I've never really been wild about miking bass guitar amplifiers. So I rarely do it.
While you might want to sound like what's his name? You're not. And he's not you. And without the band behind ya and all of the other gobbledygook, how can you hope to possibly sound like their recordings? You're not being realistic even though you're having fun. We all have fun at this. That's why we do it. Because half the sound of the amplifier is how much air that speaker is going to move. And with the power soaker, it's moving ants and not mountains. That's just going to let you hear the distortion from overdrive in your guitar amplifier. And the speaker is taking a little poop instead of a big poop. And you're all pooped out. With no more poop. And you need, poop. Which is completely attainable from just a DI input and cabinet emulators in software. If you want the sound of the cabinet? I don't. They can't deliver what full range speakers can deliver. And that's where you get a great bass guitar sound. Will it be like he is? I have no idea? Likely no? But you also don't look like Robert Redford do ya? And what are you going to do about that?
