Why do you want an RTA to be normaled to your mix bus?

You should be able to run the mix to the CDr and then take the digital out of that and run it to the DAT machine ... that's how I do it .. That way I can record either the CSr, the DAT or both at the same time ...

Did you ever get someone to come over and offer suggestions?? Yeah, one of those things...RTA to an Akai r-r. Why? I dunno, it was just suggested. I wasn't sure about it myself. This person insisted offering that solution for mastering.. I hmmmd too. I asked about the cdr's since they have a monitoring default prior to record enable. I just wasn't sure if normalling the whole thing from the CR out or main's on mixer was a good idea. Currently my pb only has one dedicated line to one cdr unit/dat. It was suggested to get two since I have one to give clients a pre mix, one dry/ one effects for previewing. Most of my mixes are to Dat. Not everbody has one, so the cdr's were the next idea.

RTAs are a solution (although not the best) for shooting a room for acoustic problems but IMO they are a crutch that too many people rely on to make sure mixes have a good balance of highs, mids and lows ...

IMO just use your ears ... there's nothing better.

A RTA can be patched in when needed if you insist but it does not need to be there all the time IMO ..
