I'm about to solder my new pickups and I'm wondering what your opinion of phase inversion is.
Supposedly you wire one pickup with the neg and pos reversed and when you select both pickups at the same time they run at inverse phases to eachother and cancel the shared frequencies.
It was popularized by Brian May, but I am told that it is a good thing to do even for metal. I am hesitant however to try it.

Typically, this is wired to a miniature DPDT toggle switch so that you can SWITCH the pick-ups out of phase from each other as a tonal option. The pick-up manufacturers will have some sort of wiring diagram you can follow if you want to DIY. You do have to drill a small mounting hole in the guitar to position the switch. Or, as an alternative, you can get a push-pull potentiometer ( "control pot") to replace a volume control. The push-pull switch would then be wired to reverse the pick-ups' phase.
