My first post on the budget gear forum, which looks like it'll be my main forum for quite some time. I haven't noticed it until now...

So, some info on myself (in case someone is interested - if not, then jump to the next paragraph :P) :
I'm a 20 years old. I live in Timisoara, a city in the western part of Romania. Been drumming for 5-odd years, playing keyboards for a year or so, and I have about 2 years of "studio experience" working on SB Live/Behringer B1/Behringer Ultragain/Kenwood amp powering some 40 EUR something "monitors" - Cubase & Waves DSPs.

Now, about my studio...
Well, to start with, I only have 900 EUR (max. 1000 EUR) to spend and I want to get equipament for a project studio to record my band (I don't need to record drums). What I need to record is Guitar&Bass Amps and vocals. I already own a decent PC, so, what I'd like to purchase is :

Cordial/Gotham cables & Neutrik connectors - 70-80 EUR with DIY soldering
Sound card : M-Audio Audiophile 2496 - 85 EUR
Mic : Audio-Technica 3035 - 198 EUR
Preamp & compressor : dbx 286A - 239 EUR (the comp would be a bonus for the guitarist, but is not a necessity)
Total : about 600 EUR

Any ideas or suggestions on alternatives for the gear above, preserving the price range?

NEXT, I do need some reasonable monitors...

- Useless RANT -
My dream monitors are the Yorkville YSM1P (considering my financial situation), which sadly, are around 600 here in Europe, if you can get hold of them. If there is any way to ship them to Germany for 400-some EUR, please tell me :!:

So, considering I only have at most 400 EUR to spend on monitors (preferably 300 EUR ), what monitors would you recommend?

Any input appreciated...

P.S. I'm Romanian, but have relatives in Germany that could send me the equipament from Germany. Just in case someone wondered how I'd deal with shipping costs.

hi Mandachuva,

i don't know all the stuff you mentioned, but the audiophile is certainly a good choice, it's the best sounding card i know for the money, and has even spdif. so i say very good choice on a budget.
neutrik yes - always a good choice, can't be better, i don't know the mentioned cables, thou... but klotz (a german company) is very, very good for DIY will last you a lifetime and sounding superb!!! and should be possible to get cheap-ish check "google" for klotz cables (Klotz kabel that is in german)
no clue about the dbx, thou... (classic dbx compression is alright (like the 266xl), but no idea what the pres are for that kinda money??) can't help you with that, sorry
about el cheapo monitors... check out KRK's RP5 they go for about 300 pounds sterling UK price, maybee you can grab an offer from germany?? i think they are very decent in that pricerange, IMO better than M-audio BX-5s or behringer or even event TR5s
hope that helps a little bit...

don't know, haven't tracked anyone down yet :D
i am actually from germany, worked there then moved to london, lived and worked there for many, many years then moved to eastern europe bratislava in slovakia to be precise, that was a very good move, learning back the un-substituteble fact of doin' it and musician-ship vs. gear mania, what i have experienced here with what kind of conditions PEOPLE making the most emotionel music...

just a little note.
