Hello all,

I have been using Nuendo since day 1 but i have also taken hits for not using PT's! i like Nuendo a lot but i hear PT8 runs under Windows. True?

I could go to the PT Forum but i know i will get more of a balanced response on this forum.

I know what N4 does but i am weak on PT running under Windows. so i have a few questions and would like suggestions and opinions.

Will PT8 run under Windows or is it just PT8 LE?

what about interface hardware on a windows computer? which PCI/PCIe cards are compatible?

ALSO: i have a LYNX Studio Aurora16 + the AES16 PCI. if PT8 will accept the AES16 all is cool. If not, i could plugin the LYNX add-on module to the back of the Aurora16 which will interface to the PT HD hardware. with that in mind, is there a PT PCI/PCIe interface card for windows machines?

anyways . . . what do ya'll think?

thanks,
billy

Here's the [[url=http://[/URL]="http://www.digidesi…"]compatibility chart[/]="http://www.digidesi…"]compatibility chart[/] for ProTools HD. I don't believe the AES16 is compatible with ProTools in itself however the Aurora 16 should directly interface with an HD card. So, in that respect you are covered at least. Is it worth it? That is a question in itself. Lots of dsp power which is nice. Will it fit in your chassis? There's another question.

ProTools 8 has been problematic for some people but 8.0.1 seems to have resolved many problems. I was able to run a very modest session of about 20 stereo track and 6 stereo Auxiliaries with about 20 plugins. My machine is by no means fast but it's alright. No hiccups worth mentioning. With an HD card you should be able to get 4 times that no problem.

Yes, PT8 will run under most of the recent versions of Windows, but will work only with Digidesign I/O interfaces. As Hueseph indicated, some 3rd-party manufacturers such as Lynx and Prism have their own ways of connecting into the Digidesign core I/O cards, but other manufacturers' audio interface and sound cards are not supported.

PT8 will run on XP Home and Professional, Vista Business or Ultimate, Windows 7 Business or Ultimate. Vista Home and 7 Basic are not supported AFAIK.

A ProTools HD1 Card will run you about $8000. And, that's without the inputs. Fortunately your Lynx Aurora will mate with it. Still, that's $8000. Tax not factored in. If this is your business though, consider it a write off.
