I ve been hearing a lot about problems with sample rate conversion. At first thought i would choose to use best bitdepth and sample rate i could find but then i start thinking that, if finally my tracks will be listen in 44.1 the mathenatical operation it has to be done will be less perfect if i record in 48k or 96k than if i do it 44.1 or 48.2. However many ties I receive proyects recorded in 16bits 48k. If it is a matter of disk space and i had to decide i would choose first giving up the sample rate than the bit depth. Usually I maintani 24 bit depth and record at 44.1k because I tend to think recording in 48 would produce math errors and using more Sample rate produces audio files that sometimes are too large.
Am I wrong? Please I would like to have some really calificated (and technical if possible) answer before I give a bad recommendation to the Recording Engeneer because, even when i think I'm right about this matter, i'm young and i could be talking more than i should.

If you are limited on disk space track at 44.1
If you have the disk space track at 88.2 or 96...whatever floats your boat..
If your doing a huge project and are unsure of disk space...track at 44.1
If your engineer say's he has to track at 88.2 or it won't sound good....fire him and e-mail me....

Sample rate conversion from high to low is one of the last things I care about or worry about. Unless your gear and skills are way advanced and you have no other obstacles or audio capturing problems, only then would I begin to worry about SR conversion.
