Anyone listened to Arcade Fire's Everything Now?

I read it was mastered by Greg Calbi.

Last The National's album is even quiter, is old fashion mastering a new trend among alt-rockers?

I hate to do this. I have to. I want to mic my drums. So here it goes...
I have a Shure Sm57 as an overhead mic.
I have an Audio-Technica At2020, (Which I'm cleverly using as a bass drum mic.) I might try to use it as an overhead.
And I have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2.

What’s an affordable hardware bass guitar compressor?

I've been away from the music world since 2013, when my last band broke up. It's been a long hiatus, but I've been chatting with a few members of that old band, and we're going to form a new project this Spring/ Summer. Which means I need to buy and build a new recording setup.

Hi gang...thought I might give my initial impressions of the Apogee Duet Mic Pre/Converter that I've recently acquired, in case someone might be doing a search on the device.

Anyone have any recommendations to tame highs in Mastering. I'm looking at a Drawmer 1973 right now because of my budget. Trying to stay out of the digital realm right now and do most if not all my processing in the analog realm. I'm also considering saving up for a Weiss Unit or a Maslec MBC. Any suggestions for outboard gear?

I wonder how the Royer SF-24 active stereo ribbon would compare to the passive Royer SF-12 run through FetHead or Cloudlifter impedance matching preamps?

Does anybody have experience of comparing first hand? Is SF-24 quieter? Better sounding? Or maybe not?
