Preamp Observation: advantages to clean, advantages to color
Forums
I've used many preamps over the years that I've been recording and mixing, and while there are certainly still parts to the craft that I'm still learning - things I'm not sure of but pick-up on, as time passes and technology advances - and I have made a particular observation ... about preamps.
comb filtering
Forums
In acoustics, comb filtering can arise in some unwanted ways. For instance, when two loudspeakers are playing the same signal at different distances from the listener, there is a comb filtering effect on the signal. In any enclosed space, listeners hear a mixture of direct sound and reflected sound.

Sony/Sigma SS-302 Mixer.
Forums
I have a 3 channel mixer as per the title and have tried contacting Sony for information but to no avail, the response was that any item 7 years after production has ceased they cannot support (built in obsolescence).
Does any one have a User Manual or Service Manual for this Mixer (obviously any expenses incurred within reason I will foot), even a copy would be great.

VO booth design
Hi y'all, I've spent a while foraging and scrounging for some ideas and methods on building a VO isolation booth and I've come up with a basic design. Considering the investment it would take I wanted to post it here so hopefully you good folks could help me catch any major design flaws.

blackjack and sm58
Forums
I Need help from the experts here. I want to record spoken word with garage band. I have a blackjack and two mics. An Audio-Technica condenser mic, and a Shure sm58. The volume when I use the condenser mic is great. I use the phantom power with the Audio-Technica. The volume when I use the sm58 is very low. I am using the XLR input into the blackjack. Do I need a mic preamp amp for the sm58?

Second set of monitors
Forums
I have been using Yamaha MSP5 in my home studio for some time now and I am loving it. I am thinking of adding another set of monitors. The application is composing and mixing multi track music - mic and instrument tracks as well as programmed instrument tracks. Any suggestion for monitors suitable for small home set up.

Studio Projects VTB-1 mic/instrument pre
Forums
A couple years ago, a friend of mine traded me a Studio Projects VTB1 Mic Pre for an M-Audio USB 4 channel Midi i/o I had laying around. ( I have plenty of midi I/O options, I wasn't using the M-Audio anyway, so I thought it was a fair trade).

An XFO question...
Forums
So, many of you know that I use an ADK AP1 mic preamp, that allows me to "pop and swap" different XFO's and OpAmps to sculpt tone...

mix for critique
Forums
Hi all.
mixed this song we wrote .and wanted your opinions on the mix balance.
After listening just now I feel the drums need a touch more level for this style.
and kick needs some attack .and probably short reflection to poke the organ riff out more.
And then verb over the whole lot .
