DVD backup?

ok. am i crazy? why can't we use a DVD burner to backup our projects. isn't it a way better alternative to stock piling removable hard drives. you can buy a burner for about $250. you can buy dvd-rs for a buck a piece. you can fit roughly a half an hour's worth of 16-track, 24bit, 48kHz audio on a 4.7 gig dvd. so what gives?

drive configuration

hello everyone. i'm building a daw from scratch. i'm going to have 2 hard drives (1 for os and apps, 1 for audio) and 1 CD burner. i will have the onboard ata 100 controller and a promise ata 133 controller. my hard drives will be on the promise ata 133 controller. my question is where should i put the burner?

Here's a biggy for you experts

I need advice on professional recording software out there, keeping in mind I'm on a budget. I have experience recording using cool edit 2000 and Cakewalk sonar, but I am not satisfied with those.

I need software to do recording and mixing. Then software for mastering. If it all comes in one package (I'm doubtful it does), let me know.

Give me your thoughts!
