A classic microphone comparison
Ok, it's a given that nothing is like my 65 Jazz Bass, or my 77 Music Man. But the fact is, there are other basses that are in the ball park of these, and though the feel and sound is not exactly the same, there are at least some instruments that are similar.
So, with all these new LD condensor mics out there, is there something that is in the ball park of -

Major label
Does anyone here know of a record put out on a major record label that was tracked, mixed, or mastered with the same brand software you are using at home?

putting a cover song on our new CD release?
Hi all,
I'm looking for a 2nd opion here. The band that I play in performs a cover song by Garrison Starr called Superhero occasionally at live shows. We decided to record it the other night just for our own amusement - not intending that we would ever try to place it on a CD or make it available.

Any EQ & compression tips and tricks?
Well I'm sure this one has been asked a billion times, but, I've just mixed an album and copied the songs onto my computer, nearly ready to burn to CD. Are there any tips or tricks I could employ with the EQ or compression to add the finishing 'fairy dust' to make the songs sound as professional as possible.

Shure SM91 best use?
I've just been given a Shure SM91 Unidirectional microphone complete with an in-line ILP-1 preamp :)
What's this type of mic used for in location recording? My first though was piano (cos it's a flat mic I suppose). Any hints, tips would be much appreciated.

which high-end mic to borrow?
This may be impossible for anyone to answer, but I figure I'd ask anyway. After being "retired" from the record thing for about 10 years, I'm taking a shot with a young singer/songwriter I met out here in the sticks. She is a great talent both as singer and writer, and we will be recording the "keeper" vocal tracks in a month or so.

What's in your wallet?
First I would like to know what you guys are using. Are most of you Mac guys or PC guys? Are you Sonar/Cakewalk or Cubase people? Then I would like to know what you guys are doing with this stuff? Is this just for your own amusement, or is anyone making seriously credible professional level music?
