On Vacation

The family and I are on vacation until the 27th, and while I'm able to answer e-mail [and do so most nights] I'm working with a laptop and a cell phone [which means a 14,400 bps connection...in other words, slower than sh*t], so this web based thing is going to be done on a minimal basis.

Best method for mixing DAW tracks?

I'm sure this is not a new question, and I've asked it once myself over in the MOTU forum, but didn't get answers that quenched my thirst...so I'll ask it again here.

What are people's opinions about the best way to mix tracks recorded to a host-based DAW? Do you prefer to mix in software or use a console? If the latter, do you prefer a digital or an analog console?

compressor

for commercial recording production, how would you rate these four compressors? GML, Manley, Avalon and Weiss?

Some Thoughts About G.A.S.

Okay let's admit it. Stand up and say my name is and I have G.A.S.! I don't mean the burrito kind I mean Gear Aquisition Syndrome. You own a,b,c (i.e. Mackie, Shure 57s, AT 4050, ADAT etc. ) and feel you really need x,y,z (API, Nuemann, Neve etc) for your stuff to sound good. Before you refinance your house, max your Visa or lose your significant other think.

mic tech for snare drum?

hey I am in the process of recording my band and I am stuck on the snare drum tone! I have a new set of heads tuned with a tensionwatch and i'm running a Beta 57A into my digimax PreSonus into Stienberg Nuendo. i'm monitoring back through a Behringer 2004 into my Mackie HR824's. The drummer is killing this thing in the live room but it sound like a little tin can!
