investement for the income challenged / hardware vs. . a/d
anyone ever go through the own personal debate of the investment quality of gear you purchase? For example, some people who make enough income can afford to own pieces of gear that will be worth 25% of the purchase cost in 5 years - where as some of us cannot.
Soundscape software plugins vs. . logic
I was wondering,or the money, if the soundscape plugins were noticeably different from plugins for logic which if I understand will work well as a interface for SSHDR-1? I own two SSHDR-1 units and was looking into the mixspander dsp for my units but was interested in finding out the difference in the plugin quality between the soundscape and logic plugins.

Red Book CDR Overs/clipping check software for Mac
I enjoy my trips to mastering houses, (I am having some trouble here in the UK over 24 bit AIFF files) but that aside...
I do however have to make my own Red Book masters for budget clients.
How can I give my CRS a 'once over' before they get sent to the factory? (or my bulk duplicator!)
Halion or Hardware?
Does anyone know about Halion. I'm thinking of purchasing it. I currently use the ASR-X for sampling. What advantages/disadvantages are there in a software sampler?

UAD-1 PPI Mixdown Distortion...
Anybody experiencing this? Had 24 tracks going with a channel strip inserted on each track. 3 Realverb Pros running as sends, 1 LA-2A as insert on a group channel, 1 1176LN insert on the bass track. On mixdown, distortion is heard on the bass track alone. Tried mixdown without the 1176LN insert on the bass track... no distortion! Anybody experiencing this?

Thank God for this...
Glad to see a Nuendo message board other than the official website forum. Too many trolls spoiled the cake... Thanks!

what to cut, what to boost? EQ

Which frequencies to cut to avoid muddy mix?
How you make the low-end? Which freq can be cut/boost to achieve low's?
How you tightend the low-end?
Final mix question: What to cut and what to boost in the final mix?

mixing/mastering topic
Let's talk about mastering..
What software do you use?
What's the "mastering" chain you prefer?
I will ilustrate something with a example. When you play a pro track in some spectrum analyzer you notice that all the frequencies "jump" simoultanously when they hit..
How this can be achieved?

Creating space in your mixes
This is a re-post of an article that appeared on Harvey's forum. I'm putting it on my board for easy access.
When mixing in stereo, there are 5 planes of spatial illusion. Level, panning, frequency, spatial perception, and contrast. These five planes are all used to create space in a mix.

favorite piece of recording equipment
What is your favorite piece of recording equipment? If judging by specs alone, it is probably your HD recorder, or ADAT. Or if you are fortunate enuff, your Analog Multitrack. Maybe it's your new Neumann or BLUE mic. Whatever it is, that is strickly technically speacking. If you were to judge by its results so far you might be surprised by your choice.
