Bass presence
Im looking for suggestions for mixing fretless electric ( active EMG's ) in a mostly acoustic latin jazz mix. I have the bass DI through a good tube unit into a decent converter etc etc. I need to keep it DI only so Micing the speaker isn't an option. The Bass sounds good when solo'd but just doesnt pop in the mix.

Boost eq with Neve API Helios? Cut eq with Focusrite?
Just been using a Neve 1073 pair recently, I find, like on my Helios eq that boost seems to be the thing I go for instictivly..
I have heard that the same goes for the API range, twist in a boost and BAFF! Cool kick, snare & gtr sounds
Using a Foucusrite 215 however, leads me to cut frequencies.. (vocal 'honk' kick 'crok')
Why is this?
Two compressors, under God, indivisible...
Mick Jagger would like each of you to mix his album. But as he get's older, like all of us, he gets a little more eccentric (which would explain his stipualtions). He will only allow you to mix his album (and you'll get paid $7000 a mix, for 12 mixes, so don't say you won't do it) under the condition that you use only 2 compressors or limiters of your choice.

Pendulum MDP-1's DI feature.
For everything a DI is supposed to do, I want a killer. How does the DI portion of the Pendulum MDP-1 compares with the DW FEARN or the EVIL TWIN? Same league? For general DI applications, mostly sweetening synth sounds...on the way into the DAW... Which one of these machines would you choose? And why? Awe scew it...I'm going to get the Pendulum first...

CDR Quality & dupe speed - are we dealing with fact
OK I have a Microboards 4 bay StartRec stand-alone (has a hard drive) CDR buner that does:
1 x
4 x
8 x
Speeds.
So, speed? Duplicators? Errors? Checking them?
I mean it's digital aint it?
So it should be perfect!
I do know one thing, media is of primary importance, I make sure I use the recomended CDR's for it.
Headroom & Dynamic range
Hi,
I am interested in the allocated headroom that you guy's leave for each instrument.
Although this is really a question in regard to Digital work stations the RMS equivalent would also be of interest.
Question #1: The maximum peak level allocated to a drum kit e.g. -18 (digital) -3vu ?

HELP!Should I money on pre's or mixer?
I am new to recording. I'm recording a 4 piece Beatleish group To ADAT. Here is my dilemma. I have an Alesis 24 board, C1 mike, several 57's Blue Max etc. I was going to purchase a PreSonus MP20 and possibly a JoemeekVC-3Q for better preamps.(Most recording will be done as the early Beatles did with minimal vocal and embelishment overdubs).

Best processor for ribbon mics
I'm looking for the best pre and/or processor for my collection of ribbon mics.
I do voice-over work into a DAW.
What do the experts here recommend?
I'm looking at a Great River/RNC combo or a Manley Voice Box.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

need advice on simple setup
Hi folks. I'm relatively new to computer recording but have been a piano player all my life. I have read tons of stuff on all the neato gear that's out there but my needs are simple. Most of the recording I will do will be with piano and strings... and an occasional synth pad. no mics or guitars(not anytime soon anyway).
