Learning the art of mastering...
I haven't actually mastered anything yet myself, nor do I think that I am any good at it. But most of my clients at the studio (in Asuncion, Paraguay) ask me to "master" their stuff. I usually try to refuse to put any attempt in "serious mastering." Most of these projects are VERY low budgets proyects that, in all likelyhood, will NOT get mastered.

Which multi chanel Pre under $750
New to recording. I am recording a 4 piece Beatleish group and an Alternative group. For mikes I Have a C1, 2-c1000s', and several 57's. Also an Alesis 24 board, Blue Max, etc. Preamps I am considering are the PreSonus MP20, Joemeek twin Qcs, Joemeek Vc3Q, HHB10 Tube Mic Pre and a few others. Does anyone have opinions on these or other preamps which will make for good recordings?

Diff. between U87 and U89?
Someone lent me a U89i, so I was wondering how does it differ from the U87? I don't own a U87, but I'll be having the U89i for a while. I tried to do a little search on my own, but haven't been able to find anything yet. apart from that it is a bit smaller than U87...

Mic refinishing
I know Electro-Voice quit doing this years ago but does anyone know who can refinish mics besides the guys who do RCA's?
I have a couple of Electro-Voice 666's that still work well but look like hell.
Paint's worn off in places and some bad engraving marks from the previous owner.
I'd like to get them refinished so they'll look good on a '60's podium.

What About This Preamp?
OK, so everyone talks about Neve. Everone talks about API. Everyone talks about the Telefunken/TAB V72 and V76. OK, but how about Telefunken/TAB V376? What's the "story" on this one?

least important part of a recording
I know, I know they are all important. But if you had to rank in order of importance.
Mic, Mic Pre, Compressor, HD or tape, Mixer, reverbs-delays-modulation, 2-bus compressors, external eq's, two track deck.
And not to leave out converters, cables, and word clocks.

Welcome Mixerman
Just thought I'd drop by and say hi. I know if you continue to impart the type of knowledge here that you've graced RAP with this forum will go a long way.
Anybody that doesn't know Mix, believe me, he knows whereof he speaks. Listen, read, print it out, put it in a 3 ring binder, and read it again!

More detailed and open- Langevin Dual mono or Sytek?
If anyone has hands on with both, which is more detailed? Which would you choose if you could only have one? (not counting the fact that the Sytek is 4 channel). Does the Langevin have a good "iron" sound to it, or is it more transparent?
Also, is the new Great River mp2nv as detailed as the original, or is it way different? Which do you prefer?
