starting from scratch

i'm just getting into the world of home digital recording. i've talked some to some local music store employees, a few people who have dealt at least a little with home setups, a rep from Cakewalk, and a few sales reps from different online companies who sell ready-made DAW PC systems. the prices for these DAWs is more than i want to pay for something that will at first be only a hobby.

Time 4 Change?

Hey All
I'm getting around to thinking about changing my oh so stable and much loved beige G3 for a new all singing all dancing 733G4. I have heard a lot of problems are associated with this machine particularly with regard to usb and midi timing. Have you any words or problems you have encountered that you can share before I go ahead?

Thanks
Simon

New Prject Studio

As a video editor working on Avids I've heard that Pro Tools is the perfect complement(Control 24 or Pro Control) since they are both under the same company umbrella. My question is do all of you recording guru's agree or If you had the budget would you get something like the new Euphonics 5 series. We are primarily doing short form projects.
