I am working on my own mixes, and plan to bring them to a mastering studio. Ideally, what is he/she looking for? Would it be a stereo mix on a wav. file? What kind of levels are the best for the mastering engineer to work from? Do most mastering engineers mind if the client is present while the mastering is done, say on a three song demo?

I have several old tracks that have the odd clipped peak. I was wondering on recommendations for 'fixing' these. I realise that these are somewhat limited in scope, but in my case these are tracks that are fine except for 3-4 unsightly overs.

I've seen adverts for various tools like Izotope and so on, but never used them (Happily using WL4 for close to a decade I guess.)

I do a little low budget mastering from time to time. :redface: Generally this means polishing up home studio productions for myspace, or for small scale duplication, and I have been happily laying out CDs using CD Architect.

Ah ya! and when it comes to moderators, more is better! Rainer (aka Big K) has been with RO since 2002 and its about time I asked him to join the ME team. He is very clever and extremely experienced in both ITB and OTB engineering and mastering. I'll let him tell you more if he has time.
