Capturing the Right Tunes

Mastering has become synonymous with quality and perfection. The process involves fine-tuning the tracks to make it sound interesting. The tweaked song sounds good on any medium and not just on which it was created. The mastering process renders polish to the whole song. This is all the more important when there are more than one song in the album.

Remastering old vinyl recordings

I have some very old classic vinyl recording recording at a famous Jamaican studio called Studio One. They already mastered but a very long time ago and lack luster and punch.

I would like to use the Waves C4 to put some punch into the recordings as they seem very light especially the bass.

Is it best to use the upward compressor or the upward expander or simple EQ the mix

Mastering engineer expectations- what to bring

I am working on my own mixes, and plan to bring them to a mastering studio. Ideally, what is he/she looking for? Would it be a stereo mix on a wav. file? What kind of levels are the best for the mastering engineer to work from? Do most mastering engineers mind if the client is present while the mastering is done, say on a three song demo?
