Hi all,

I am planning on sending a couple Wav. files off to be professionally mastered. Should I remove the DC offset with Sound Forge prior to it going to the ME? Thanks all.

This is a shot in the dark, but stranger things have happened... Does anyone know any of any studios in San José, Costa Rica that might want some cheap Reason 3.0-based mastering? I'm studying abroad here and I figure I might test out my idea of cheap "laptop mastering."

I'm at the point that I want to start learning the art and science behind mastering.

I was planning on getting the Bob Katz book, asking a lot of questions here, hopefully start sitting in on mastering sessions, and start buying or building gear that would be useful for both mastering and in my recording/mixing sessions.

Anybody use it, notice any difference in sound quality? Thanks I was looking at building one for mastering.

Im looking into a good E.Q. for mastering----Ive been looking at Manelys Massive Passsive,,,,but the $$$$$$ is a bit too much.
Any votes on the Pultecs-----or any other "good" EQs?.
How about TL Audio EQs?

When mixing a record that will be mastered is it better to

1. mix low and have the master fader at unity

2. mix normal and lower the master fader to read about -2db

and what effects does these methods have on the overall sound?
i have my first project going to be mastered so i am just making sure i got my game down

my final mixdown from pro tools is very low. what can i do to make it louder?

Okay, so I haven't really bought too many commercially released pop/rock CDs lately, much less listened to them in a real environment other than my car.

So, in an attempt to familiarize myself with a few of the newer artists or some returning favorites, I bought the two following discs this past weekend:
