toast with jam and the redbook standard

Forums

Hey There,

I'm finishing up a project for a client. He's going to send off a CDR to a replication house that will create a glass master and then stamp xyz number of copies. I know I need to give him a master CDR that's fully redbook compliant to ensure that there are no problems in the process. (By the way, the project is six songs, right at 25 minutes.)

Compressing in "Stages"

Stage 1: Adding Control Compression
The purpose of this compression stage is to control any sudden high-level peak that could cause the average level to be brought lower. This compression has much the same effect as "tape compression" in analog recording, and can be omitted if the mix was originally recorded on analog tape.

Mastering with RTA and EQ.

Years ago when I was just learning about audio engineering, I used to work for a University audio department. I had the long grueling job of remastering old reel-to-reel tapes of music by the composer for the symphonic orchestra :? . I would feed the signal into a Goldline spectrum analyzer and find where the peaks and valleys in the frequency spectrum were.

First Project Ever!

Hey all. I am very new to the world of recording, but have been wanting to get into this my entire life. I just purchased my first setup, which is very minimal: MBox2, PT LE, Behringer Eurorack UB1202, Yamaha EMX 66m powered mixer (needed a PA for the band, this seems to double well by running the tape out of this to the tape in of the Behringer), 10 Cheap Nady mics and an MXL 990 condenser.
