Favorite plugins and analog gear?
What is your favorite digital ( plugin ) version and analog version for each of these (for mastering):
Limiting
EQ
Stereo Expansion
Compression
Reverb
Dither
Also, does anyone find the UAD-1 Precision Limiter to be better than Waves L2?

Practice Piece?
Good afternoon
I have to do a masteringjob of a nice piece of Rock Musik, and i have some Problems to
to restrain the high frequencies of Cymbals and Gitarre.
The goal is a "relative" hot master because the band let make a secound testmaster
at a "hardcore 0 db" masteringstudio in good old vienna.

Shelving?
Me and my brother spent a very long time recording our first song under the impression that "what doesn't sound good now will be fixed in the oh-so-amazing cool edit pro, with eq."
Boy were we wrong.

Mastering for Myspace
Has ANYBODY had any luck with this? ...So hard to get a decent sound because of the piss poor conversion. But every now and then I'll hear something passable (usually major label)
Anyone find any techniques that work?

changing tracks without gap in audio?
Hi all,
I'm putting together an audition recording for myself, for an orchestra. One of the requirements of the audition is that the CD needs to be indexed at various points but the audio is not aloud to stop (so they know there is no editing involved).

Adobe Audition file format and record quality
Hi,
Just started using Adobe Audition 1.5 and not sure what file formats to use.
Is WAV a better source as there are more bandwidths available or is MP3 status acceptable ?
Also - How easy is it to use a pre-amp into your pc soundcard to "lift" the quality of vocal recording ?
Anything will help.
Cheers

dithering explained
Ok, i am about to prove how novice i am. Several of the programs and hardware i've come across cam process audio at higher sampling rates and bit rates than CD format 44.1/16 bit. I have recorded songs at 48k, and 24 bit, only to find myself unable to "bounce" it back to 44.1/16 bit.
Is dithering the process i'm out of touch on?
Confused, and thanks for any help.

finalizer + sending mastered Cds to manufacturer
Hi, I have a huge workload, low budget project involving 53 CDs of dialogue. and "incidental' music for kids. I need to get it out quick and the budget isn't high so I am planning to buy a Tc electronics finalizer and do everything myself. I know DYI is not a great idea for music, but for this many discs and the nature of the material, volume and clairty are most important.
pow-R dither & mastering ?
I have been using the pow-R dither on the master fader when bouncing down in PTLE, I have definatly noticed a difference in the audio. Generally I have been using 16 bit & Noise type 1. Do any of you have preferences for the other noise types ?
Is it smarter to use the 20 bit dither when boucing down ?

Mastering, can I do it? Time, budget, limits, I need help!
So yeah, I've been RECORDING my band for a few weeks now, putting in time here and there. We are finish up vocals, unfortunately, we wanted to have our CD release show on May 12th (They will be pressed at discmakers.com, 1000 copies). We couldnt afford to professionally record it, because the average listener won't complain about slight quality issues, if the music is good, it is good.
