Should I buy a tube condenser mic?
But I can't say that I 'need' it; I just want one. I only record vocals (my own) acoustic and electric guitars. Right now I go between a 4033 a Bluebird and a 58.
I'd like to keep it around $500 - $700 +/- so I've looked (new and used) a bit at things like the K2, KSM44, 4060, T3, etc.
Totally open for some suggestions.

M/S micing: substitution of bi-directional mic?
I've been wanting to experiment more with the Mid-Side technique, but I don't own a bi-directional / figure-8 microphone. Would I get comparable results standing in two identical cardioid LDCs for the side mic? Some provocations:
basic vocal Micing q
Hi, reasonably simple question which requires a simple answer...i hope.
I am running an SM58 into a MOTU Ultralite which is connected by firewire to my G4. I am recording spoken vocals into bias peak and only require a dry signal as all the effects will be applied after recording.

unique drum Micing situation, advice needed.
here is my situation:
my drummer has a sh*tload of drum mics and a sh*tload of drums, a huge set, and likes to use them all when redcording. He also has a Peavey PV20 mixer with 16 mic inputs. This is what we use for live sound but we are about to start recording using it.
What mics to buy/best bang for the buck/first post?
Hi All,
This is my first post. I'll tell more detail below if you'd like.
I'm looking at getting
1. a Blue Bluebird
2 a stereo pair (RODE nt5, cascade m39, josephson someday maybe, etc.)
2.5. Cascade fathead pair
3. Some Shure sm 57, 58s to round it out
4. Some pzm's.
5.PreSonus Firestudio (diff btwn this and studio version?)
DAW utility? Mic on/speaker mute
Before I buy a Sign-Off switch, I'd like to check with you folks to see if there is a utility that automatically mutes the speakers when you turn on the microphone and turns the speakers back on when the mic is turned off.

Headphone and Mic Recommendations
Hello, I'm looking to buy a new set of headphones to be used primarily with my DAW. It's been recommended to me that I get professional headphones that are "pure tuned" or "flat" so that there is no biased judgment of the final mix's equalization. Is that pretty much a standard with today's headphone monitors? Does anyone have any recommendations, and why?
