Neumann paired with?
Hey everyone,
I have a home studio that is mainly used for voice-over work...ie commercials, imaging for radio stations, etc.
Currently I am using a Neumann TLM49 paired with a dbx 286A mic preamp.

My next mic purchase
Ok so I've got about 300-350 to spend on a mic. I have a bit of a picky ear, but I don't have the budget to spend thousands on a single mic. I would like to eventually get two mics for a more stereo sound but for now I need one good solid mic for recording on my 002 (did mostly MIDI before this).

Micing a Choir
I have two Studio Projects C4s that I'm looking to use to mic my church's choir. They are set up in three rows on risers, going from low (in front) to high (in back). They are in kind of like a little alcove in our church off to the side. The ceiling is very low, so Micing them directly overhead isn't going to work.

Drum Kit Mic Recomendations
So right now i have a PDP 6 piece LX series kit. It sounds decent right now with a Audix Kick mic and a Shure sm58 overhead. But i need more.
I was thinking about these for now.
Kick- AKG D 112
Snare- Sm57
But what i want to know is do i need to mic all 4 of my toms or could i get away with using a good overhead?

How do you really do stereo mic placement in the field?
So I've been reading about variations on ORTF stereo mic techniques and all of the spacing and angle measurements. I've played around with them in the studio and measured with a ruler and protractor. But when I've used them in the field, I've just eyeballed them. Seems to me the only real drawback of this is that it might no be as consistent. What do you do?
Which dynamic plugs should I buy
Hi there
I am wanting to get myself some decent dynamic plugs to use in logic on my Macbook Pro for production of electronic music (trance).
I use some of the stuff included whithin logic pro 7.2 but I would really like some decent plugs that will allow mt to get the best out of my mixes.

Condenser Microphone in Open Area.
I recently purchased a Mxl 909 Condenser microphone and I'm gonna be running it through a Samson C-Valve Tube Preamp. But I am gonna be doing my recording in my room, I live in a second story apartment building in an area thats not too busy but not really quiet. at times I can clearly hear children outside playing, and music from adjacent apartments and car stereos outside.

Mic upgrade choices in the $650-$700 range
I realize that this might be considered by some to be a question about semi-pro gear, but I want to make it clear to anyone working for the IRS that this is definitely a question about pro gear. Most of my "most profitable" work comes from recording singer-songwriters or contemporary Christian artists.
