Greets and Happy New Year!
I'm a newbie who is trying to set up a little recording setup. My needs are realy basic : I just need to be able to record midi via a keyboard and vox at the same time, to record to CD.
Kind Of Blue, Micing Technique.

Spot Micing in an orchestra/ choir soloist situation
Joe H- I read your essay on 2 mic VS multimic recording and enjoyed it. A good explanation of how when when we have no visual and enviornmental cues to help us, the audio balances must be much more exact to provide a good musical experience.
Classical- dynamic levels?
Many of my classical/ orchestral clients say they want 'full dynamic' but also do not want to constantly adjust their car volume controls. I employ various tricks to help with this. Unlike pop, in classical, dynamics are still allowed and encouraged (thank god).

Drum mic set
Right i'm looking to invest in a decent set of drum mics as part of a project studio, which is being steadily built upon with the intention of eventually renting it out. Now i'll have to admit i'm not very hot on drum mics, i usually use SM57's on snares and toms, and whatever designated bass drum mic and condensor overheads happen to be available.

Good Acoustic/Vocal Mic?
I'm an acoustic guitarist/singer looking for that one mic... I guess I did somthing wrong because my last post was removed *shrug* Anyway I'm trying again. I can spend 1-2 grand and I'd be using it through an mbox with pro tools. Thanks

recommend a good acoustic guitar and vocal mic
I just got a G5 mac with Pro Tools and the Mbox. I do acoustic recordings alone. Guitar, Vocals, and a little acoustic percussion/shakers. So it's pretty simple. but I'm wondering where to go from here. can anyone recommend a good acoustic/vocal mic? I read the monitor post and I know I should get some soon as I'm using headphones.
