Ok I need suggestions hear. this is what I've got:

4 - Shure SM57 (Snare, toms, instruments)
1 - Shure Beta 52a(Kick, bass cabinets)
2 - Oktava MC-012(OH's/Acoustic guitars)
1 - Oktava MK-319(Vocals)

I'm on a budget but this is what I'd like to add to my list:

Certain mics are characterised as have a presence peak or other qualities that result in a bumpy frequency response plot. Now, and please correct me if I'm way wrong, but was the "original" purpose of EQ not to "correct" these irregularities? If this is the case, to what extent is this accepted practice today?

You know...for a while...I've been asking for (& receiving) help on questions related to: well...basically, trying to achieve a pro sound on a (my) project studio budget.

So why shouldn't I begin to move up; & start to acquire some quality gear?

How does this sound for a start?

I have an mbox and a digi 002. Wanted opinions on two things:

1.) Do you recommend using a mic preamp, or using factory Focusrite pres?

2.) Best mic between:

a.) RODE NT1000, Studio Projects C1 and TB1.
b.) RODE NTK, Blue Baby Bottle, Shure KSM32

Does anyone have an informed opinion regarding comparisons of SCA mic preamps vs John Hardy, or Great River? I realize the "bang for the buck" argument on behalf of SCA. But from a head-to-head comparison of sheer sonic quality, can you hear a difference between e.g. the SCA J99 vs the John Hardy manufactured mic preamp?

Has anyoone heard or checked out their Mic upgrade kits? Basically, you take a low end mic and change the guts out and they produce a mic comparable to a high-endNeumann mic for a lot less money. You have to do the soldering and labor, but is it worth it ? They got some great reviews.

I am looking to buy new OH mic's. Anybody have a favorite pair of cymbol mic's? I want to be able to use them in a live setting. I have a pair of large condenser mic's.
Looking for more of a cymbol mic (rolloff lower freq.) rather than a kit mic (wide range).
