Speck MicPre 5.0--wow

Forums

Excuse me here: but holy sh*te.

I just ran my mic through it about 20 minutes ago. My hair is still on end.

Any of you who were reading my posts from the last month know that I've been asking a lot of mic opinions because I thought my Blue baby Bottle was little tubby and dark. You may have heard me say that I wasn't thrilled with it. That I was thinking of a new mic.

Microphones for Violin

Forums

I am currently doing a project invovling violin right now and in past projects I was never happy with the violin sound I got. I have tried C451s but they always seem to have a harsh edge to them. The best I have come up with so far is using a 414 about 12" above the scroll angled towards the bridge. I would like to get that fat robust sound without the edge.

Got Speck ASC EQ and trial MicPre 5.0

Forums

I bought the ASC EQ after seeing its flexibility and talking with Vince Poulos.

I also decided to check out the MicPre 5.0 which seems like absolutely the most SS bang for the buck. I've never actually seen a pre with this kind of routability/features, so I'm giving it a spin. I can either keep it or send it back--Vince'll do that for you.

Mic choice.

Forums

Hi !

I've been using Behringer B2 mics for 1 year now, and i want to change these for more "professionnal" ones, for voice recording.
Unfortunately, i don't have the opportunity to test gear before i buy :(

So i was thinking about the TLM 103, but i hear many people say the studioprojects mics are really good ones... (especially the tb1)

Mics 101

Forums

Sorry there is a lot here, but you folks are my only hope for answering these questions:

What is the difference between Small and Large Diaphragm?

What is a good Maximum SPL for drum overhead condensers? Or rather, how do I calculate that? How about SPL for a guitar amp?

Mic placement recording a violin?

Forums

Hi! I'm in need for some helpful information here about Micing violin. I'm going to record it tomorrow so I need it ASAP. The main question is, how should I place the mic? Distance, angle etc. It's a single violin but I'm going to record something like 10-16 overdubs. This will be used on top of sampled strings, so I want it to sound like a part of an orchestra not like a solo.
