What are the main differences between Passive and Active DI's and what applications would i use either on respectively.

I have an FW-1884 and from all of the horrible reviews about how bad it sounds. I'm now starting to wonder if it is even worth it to upgrade to nicer mic preamps.

Here is my question. .if I were to run the 4 API pres and 4 AMEK pres that I'm building through a decent converter and into the ADAT in. will the FW1884's converters affect the high quality incoming signal?

Has anyone used the AMEK Mozart? What do you think about it? I have some PCB clones of the Mozart and some API preamps, and I'm debating on what to start building first. Since I'm on a budget it will be a while to get to a second project after I finish the first.

so i have Pro Tools 6.9 i just upgraded my OS to tiger and now i see this and cant run pro tools and they seem to be no help at all any one know how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated

Can anyone tell me what the difference between a (DI) Direct instrument input and a Line level input is and what type of instruments each of them are. Also what are the impedance differences between the two.

I read a lot of blogs about the L3 MULTImaximer being multiband and not as clean as the L2. What about the L3 ULTRAmaximizer? Is that cleaner? As good as the L2?
