VST Instrument Latency
:( Is that what steinberg call a solution? If I use Battery as stand alone sampler I can solve this by decreasing buffer size, and everything's OK. I own a PIII 500 MHz 256MB RAM. Any thoughts? Help!

I wnt to move from hobby to commercial - next investment
I'm ready to pack in the day job, and part of the retirement package gives me a lump sum of about 35K. I'll have a pension that I can live on. I can invest about 25K of the lump sum.
The decisions I'm faced with:
Sonar 101
In case anyone out there is interested, I got my copy of Sonar yesterday, and had it up and running in no time flat. About 10 hours, lol. had to re-install display drivers and all of my audio drivers as well. I've got my Panasonic DA7 hooked up to the PC via the MOTU 2408mkII using 2 TDIF cards, and midi control is implemented with a USB midisport 2x2.

Fletcher: over the shoulder project
Hi Fletcher,
I read a while back, I believe in Harv's forum, that you were going to guide look over someone's shoulder in their project studio, and suggest improvements, techniques, etc.
Did this ever happen? I thought it sounded like a cool idea at the time.

Mixing Piano
Any tips on mixing piano? The source is a Korg 01W so I don't have to worry about mic placement. I just want to avoid a muddy bottom.

Does anyone still slate takes?
Hi all,
I've been listening to the third Chicago album a lot lately. It starts with the last bit of an engineer slating the take. You hear a very distinct "One" followed by tuning, warming up etc.
It got me to wondering if people still slate takes, on the multitrack, and/or the mixes. Does anyone here do it? I think I may start, especially on my newly rebuilt 2".

Jeff Buckley / Andy Wallace
with all the talk of hits and mixes lately - was wondering if anyone has taken a good ear to Buckley's "Grace".
I never really gave a serious listen to any of the Buckley albums - yet it was the mix that I decided to "study" last night before a few hours of sleep.

Has anyone tried the TL Audio VTC?
I'm thinking about picking one up to be used as submixer for my digital effects(480L,M3000,DSP7000,etc). A while ago I used a little Langevin tube mixer for this purpose, and got a great blend without having to EQ my aux sends and returns as much. I think a while back I read that JJP was using a UA mixer(with the new 610 preamps) for this purpose.

MIXES THAT STICK = HITS
I'm 28 and I've had a revelation. A great mix of a good song equals a hit.
