Digital mixing
I suppose this is a question for the more high-endpeople around here. We've been talking some about how Pro Tools isn't the best thing to trust your level/mixing chores with. Has anyone here stretched out on one of the top level digital mixers? Oxford, Axiom, Libra, etc.? Any opinions? Are these boards the same sonic letdowns as some of the less expensive stuff?

Hey Mixerman, 1/4" or 1/2" question
Mixerman, (and others too),
I remember a while ago on RAP that you posted about an upcoming mix that you were going to do on 1/4" tape instead of your normal 1/2". I never saw the follow up and was wondering if you might sum up your observations here as well.

Can you solve this mystery?
So, I've been recording this band, and we were after drum takes. Typically we would end up with 5 takes, and then load the 3 best into Pro Tools to edit between. The drums sounded really good through the monitor section of the console we were using (I don't say this to brag, it's actually an important component of the story). The Producer was very happy with the drums off tape.

D to A & back on the 2-bus?
Hey, I understand the concept of staying in the digital domain until the end (CD), but I've been wanting to strap something like a FATSO and/or a Pendulum comp across the 2-bus at/after mixdown. (no mastering house involved after)
Should I be 'stuck' with plugins and use that typo 'o' gear to track only?

FMR - Fletcher, what's the scoop?
How ya doin' Fletcher,
I noticed your post on "the other Forum" about a good, cheap Mic Pre, where you mention the soon-to-be-available RNMP from FMR, and that it "will have a second function which will act as a "balancing box" for the FMR 'Really Nice Compressor [RNC]".

Anybody ever heard of Dan Alexander?
I am thinking about buying a Neve 1272 racked by Dan Alexander. I was wodering if anyone has seen his work? It seems to cost a lot less than the same thing racked by Brent Averill or DAvid Marquette. Just looking for some info.

Possible to send analog audio over fiber?
I had a notion today. Why are fiber optics restricted soley to digital transmission? Wouldn't it be possible to send analog audio over a glass fiber optic cable? Is anyone working on this? Or are the transmiters/recievers not clean enuff compared to electrical analog audio?

Best Direct X Plugins (besides WAVES)?
I know this is a DAW question, but I would suppose it relates to engineering. I have the PPII Renaissance collection, what are some other Plugins that are as good or better for Direct X? Thanks
