I am looking for the best way to get 2 pristine channels into my Mac Pro. I'm recording vocals. I don't want to spend more than $5,000.

What preamp / converter / computer interface should I buy?

Having got rid of my old DAW over a year ago, i've now got myself a new PC (for spec, see below). I didn't intend on this one being my new DAW, so i've been using it for day to day stuff ie. Surfing the net, burning CD's, d/loading etc.

I'm going to buy an Rosetta 200, which I plan to connect to my Mac Pro via the Mac's built-in optical SPDIF inputs.

Will this work? Or do I need to get a sound card or other audio interface that has a clock? Will it make a difference in the sound?

I am thinking about buying an API a2d, which has AES/BEU output, as well as S/PDIF coaxial output. I am trying to figure out the best way to get the output into my Mac Pro.

I only need two channels. It would be great if I could save some money here.

Well I am super ignorant to singing. I've wanted to sing my whole life but I've held back on even trying. When I was about 5 years old my uncle told me I would never sing because our family was tone def. I'm trying to figure out how to know if I even have the ability to sing in tune, is there something I can try at home before I embarrass myself with vocal lessons. .

The AES convention, in NYC is at the Jacob Javits convention Center beginning tomorrow, October 5. I'll be up there through Sunday, staggering around like I have been doing for 35 years.

Yeah I have the TonePort but I'm hearing pops and clicks so I'm thinking of sending it back. USB interrupt issues. I raised the buffer slider and it helped a little but not entirely. I was wondering though about those hard disk recorders, like the Tascam ones.
