I recorded a comedy show recently. I got a feed from the mic that the comedians were using, but it was unidirectional, so the laughs didn't really get picked up.

Okay I'm new to recoring i have a whole big tape deck set up. I am looking to move to digital. I do not want a work station.
I need help like i really dont no what i need.
I have mics and cables etc.
I also have vegas 7.0d software Im guessing you can record with it i dont no how but ill learn.
I was looking at getting a Alesis fire wire mixer

do most people use fire wire mixers?
or interfaces with mixers?
these questions may sound stupid but I'm new to recording
i want to record stright into a computer so I'm figuring out what to buy.
I may get a Alesis firewire mixer. Does anyone use those?

if so i have a few questions.

I am contemplating buying a SONY FX1 HiDef 16:9 video camera, because I am getting so many requests for auditions, festivals, concerts, everyone wants DVD output and really top quality output.

I'm trying to get all of my Midi gear to show up and work within Pro Tools and I am having trouble getting them to work. Here is my setup the way I have it configured. Sort of a Frankenstein job but I feel like it should work.

I have 3 devices with Midi ports

I was given a Pro Tools shortcut keyboard and was wondering what the colors on each key meant. Anyone?

In what situations do you like to use sidefill speakers as part of (or all of) your monitor system? What kind of mix do you usually send to them? I've seen them used in several situations including one small festival where the sound crew used them as the only monitors (fairly small stage and nice big arrays - worked quite well).

Having looked closely at the design of my 'Realistic' PZM I was wondering if anyone had tried mounting a small diaphram mic very close to a large flat surface or plate to obtain the same effect.
Why? Firstly you could swap different mics, and secondly all the sig/noise benefits.

I have a pair of Tannoy Mallorcans and a Crown CE1000 amp. Would these speakers work well if I used them for an Acoustic concert (Two mic setup, guitar and vocals)?

If you don't know these speakers look at them like large residential speakers (12" Woofer). Also does anyone have any idea what the wattage might be?
