i accidentaly found this forum and i think it's a great one.
Could you guys help me to setup my daw?
it's a relatively old system and certainly a very old sound card, but i don't have the money and i think these things could make a decent enough homestudio for me to play with :)

Cheap 2-channel compressor
Forums
I need a fairly cheap (under or around $200) 2-channel compressor for Micing a drumset. I will be running my sm57 (snare) and my beta52 (kick) into this compressor then into my e-mu 1820. I'm just now going to start working with compressors because before I used the digital one on Cakewalk. Any suggestions?

Forums
Im curious if any of you use a summing mixer from your DAW + UAD/TC plugs .
And if so.. any comments towards a better "warm sound" in the mix ?
Im in the process of updating my converters Apogee Rosetta 800 and was wondering if items such as TUBE TECH SSA 2A or Dangerous Music products hold up to what they claI'm their products can do.

Is an "audio only" pc still a good idea?
Forums
Is it a big deal now a days, given that pc's are faster than ever and can tolerate more "stuff" running in the background?
Windows xp is pretty stable and does a good job.
I am not a big game guy. I use my pc for Cubase/reason, web browseing, email, and the odd thing or 2 on ms word.
Of course antivirus is used, but nothing Norton.

C4 vs HM-1
Forums
I'm looking for a pair of SDC for OHs and acoustic guitars. I was set on the C4s but i've been reading so much good stuff lately on the HM-1. What are the differences and which one would be better for the applications I mentionned. I would save a pretty good amount of money with the HM-1s because I live in Canada. I could get them shipped for 198$. The C4s would cost 319$ plus S&H.

New mac g5's are out-
Forums
But the highest spedd one is dual 2.7- they dropped the middle one to a dual 2.3 instead of the 2.5. they probably figured that if the middle one was 2.5 and the top one 2.7 people would not be willing to shell an extra $500 for it- this is probaly a good time to buy a 2.5 :D

Soundscape, Creamware.
Forums
This month's SOS mag features a review on the soundscape mixtreme power pak, and new mixtreme card.
A while back there was a review on the Creamware stuff.
It all looks good, but I was wondering why you dont hear too much about these products?
The popular stuff is PTLE systems, Cubase/Nuendo/Cakewalk?sonar, etc.

suggestions for a portable recorder
Forums
Hi!
I'm thinking about hanging around recording sounds (animals, cars, noises, whatever) to try and play with them. And so i need a portable recorder... 2 tracks ought to be enough (mono or stereo miking), and needs to be plain simple to use.
I was thinking about a minidisc... any suggestions?
By the way, can I use other mics than those designed for the minidisc?
