MWAHAHAHA! Preamps! What they are...and what they do!
Forums
I think I jumped a little head first into this whole thing. I am fresh out of college with a degree in Software Engineering and a master plan to make money so I can buy some sweet gear and get my music off in an beautiful explosion! I have a good job, about 30 min worth of songs almost completed and am looking to get a reasonable setup for gear so I can concentrate on writing and recording.
Project/equipment advice
Forums
I have a series of concerts coming up that I would love some advice/opinions on recording setup. It is a concert of Tango music (All Astor Piazzolla). I have a budget of $1500-1800 to work with. I could use it to hire someone but I would rather use the budget to build my equipment collection and record the concerts using my stuff (I’m the cellist in the ensemble).

Stereo/Mono
Forums
Please forgive my ignorance, but can someone tell me the difference between recording something in stereo as opposed to recording mono and then doubling it and using two channels? I mean, if you are using the same mikes, do you place them differently to capture a different part of the sound? Whats the deal?

RADAR files to Cubase/Nuendo?
Forums
Just got done tracking a project at another studio in Austin. They were using RADAR as their platform. I am wanting to get the individual tracks dumped down so that I might be able to import them into Cubase or Nuendo at my own studio so that I might create specific practice mixes for the touring band. The engineer at the other studio said that RADAR doesn't export .wav files.

MP3 VERSES WAV FILES
Forums
I WALKED into a kinda start up studio and i found they were mixing down all their recordings into mp3 format. I thought it is not advisable to mix down recordings into compressed formats, can anyone prove or disaprove my point? please
