SMPTE and DAW's

Wondering, why dont sequencers and the like have buit in SMPTE decoders. Steinberg products in this case. I would suppose having a SMPTE setup option where you define which audio input channel is recieving SMPTE. The decoding happens within the DAW.

that aside, which is the cheapest SMPTE - MTC stand alone converter in the market ?

thanks

High-End Compressor

I'm in the market for a 2-channel compressor, preferably stereo-linkable... I'm a sucker for the tubey sound, but am open to suggestions...

I have been looking at the Drawmer stuff... the ts2d tubescreamer looks cool, but I have pretty good industry contacts and can get a 1968 mercenary for $1350 and can get similar hookups from other gear vendors (sorry to gloat )

Pre or Mixer?

Alright, well I have been lurking for quite a long time now and have taken in as much information as my little brain can handle. Here is my story. I am doing voice over and imaging work, but want to start doing it out my house. I own a Shure SM7 mic which is what I will be using. My computer is ready to go with AA 1.5, all I need to get is the m-audio 2496 for that.

Audio interface/ADAT questions

i originally was planning on trying to snag an Aardvark Q10 off ebay for the studio i'm setting up for my school, but the folks here are kind of reluctant of spending that kind of money on used stuff, especially if it's an auction item, so i'm looking at alternatives. the Tascam fw1884 is a very attractive option, but a little pricey.
