audio eigine system error
Forums
Howdy. I'm not sure that I have the right forum, or even that this site answers these questions, but my reissued Gateway laptop 400sx has been running Cubase SX quite reliably for some time now, but recently, upon playing back a song I've been working on, it will get about half way thru, and suddenly freeze.

Yamaha NS-10m Pro's
Forums
hi All,
I have the opportunity to buy a pair of NS-10M's. The speaker boxes' finish is a mess, but the speakers sound fine and have no apparent audible flaws.
I understand that these are good nearfields, but I have no idea what they're worth.
How much should I be willing to pay for them?
Thanks.
jurz

Preamp from my mixer or seperate preamp?
Forums
I currently do most of my recording using the preamps on my Soundtracs MRX console, but I was wondering if I might get a better sound buying a seperate 4-channel preamp, maybe the Sytek MPX-4Aii ? (at least something in that price range)

old new preamp 3340
Forums
I have an old TEAC 3340S I dont yuse it from ten years now, this weekend I plug a Senh 421 in and I compare with my Sebatron vmp-2000 and my Studioprojects VTB-1, the Sebatron have a more full and warm sound, the VTB-1 his thinny and a bit harsh, the 3340 have a nice sound, less bass then the Sebatron but he have a warm sound and that give me four extra pre free.

Strange CPU behavior; videocard uses too much?
Forums
When playing a file in (for example) WaveLab, the machine uses up to 99% CPU. As a result (?) I have these 'drop outs'. When I put the WaveLab-window in the taskbar, the CPU usage drops to around 20%.
It seems the videocard uses far too much of the CPU, is my conclusion..
The same problem appears when using Cubase...
Lengthy guitar cables
Forums
At my studio, we are putting in wall mounts that will allow some members of the band to play in the live room but have their amp in the booth so the band can all play in the same room. Now we do this by having jacks in the live room and running the wire through the walls to the booth so your guitar would plug into the wall mount jack.

Help with effects on a Roland VS2000CD
Forums
Hello,
I have been looking everywhere for help with my workstation. I have a VS2000CD
I mainly have trouble assigning effects to be recorded and played back.
I can get effects as I record, but that'S all.
I managed to get effects on a mastered mix too, but the effects were too strong and the volume was down.

MOTU 2408 mkII vs 828 mkI Help
Forums
I just got a g5 and so I need to upgrade my 2408 mkII system with a 424 pci card. My question is for about a little more than the cards price I could get the first generation 828 firewire interface and be able to sell my 2408, so would that be a good idea? Is the quality of the 2408 mkII better than the 828 mkI? I do like the idea of using the 828 with my laptop. Thanks for all help!

Unusually noisy hard drive (or, "Attn: DAvid French&quo
Forums
I've noted the following problem: the new 7,200-rpms ATA drive I've installed pulses noisily at, say, a 100-cycles tone, around once per second. Also, the dynamics of said pulse actually increase or decrease depending on what I'm doing with my computer.
