and a basic soundcard. so what should i use to record it?
Like a decent preamp that is cheap.

I dont want to spend a lot (excluding the mic)

Maybe use Universal Audio 2-610 for Jazz, soft rock, etc
Manley for metal, hardrock, etc etc..

I am working in a new studio and I am still getting familiar with all the surroundings. I have not recorded a project yet but my first project will be in November. I only track at the studio. I do mixing at home and I send stuff to be mastered elsewhere. Here is a problem I want to figure out before I get the artist in the door and I find myself scratching my head.

I'm trying to run Spectrasonics software with my Mbox on a power book G4. The libraries would take up too much space on my internal drive SO, I'm wondering if there's a way to place the libraries on an external?

I wanna give my guitarsound a bit of a tube sound. But i dont have the money to get myself a good tubeamp. I own a Pod XT, which i think it sounds good, not perfect but good. Is it a good idea to setup a tubepreamp like a mic. preamp or a tube compressor behind the XT? Ive saw some a Focusrite which looks very nice.

Can i get anything a litte cheaper? I've been searching but can't come across anything. I need something that can run 8 tracks at once...10 tracks maximum. Any help would be great.

I have a new studio that is in a professional setting not in my home. If I record and produce an album on spec for an artist, what is the going percentage I should ask for in return and what is that percentage tied to?

The other situation is if I record and produce an album but then also pay all the expenses to put that album out, what should I ask for in return?

I am completely alien to this midi world, but have bought a midi controller pedal in order to trigger my sampler. I have read the instructions and each time it only seems to result in a stabbing pain in my head.

I'm considering getting a digi 001 system (off ebay) and since I will be switching from a desktop PC to mac powerbook labtop in the near future I'm wondering if the pci card for the digi001 is installable into both the powerbook and a desktop pc. I'm assuming it only fits in a desktop and not a labtop, but since I've never owned a labtop before I figured I'd ask.
