Avril Lavigne - I'm With You: The only way I can describe what really catches my ear with this song is 'close miking'.. I mean the guitars and drums just sound like the mic was placed inside the instrument. I know I know, it's probably just a very high quality mic, or a combination of them- but I have no idea how to achieve a sound like this.. Very cool!

Okay, I finally got the hang of how to record in cool edit, and edit it, put in back ups, etc.. But now I have one more problem, my voice is extremley low, I can't even hear my self.. especially at the height of the beat, it just drowns my voice out.. I know that there has to be some controls somewhere to fix this, and even everything out. I simply don't know which ones control that..

I have posted on the "budget/home studio etc" w/ no results and am expanding my search for expert advice to this forum. I hope to not p*ss off the moderators as I regard this site as an invaluable resource.

I am baffled why I here many enginers Track keyboards through a DI the to a board or channel strip... Is this to raise the level? Do they use phantom power engaged? Does this make tracking clearer?
Would this be a good idea for use with my Triton, Mpc2000xl, Roland5080? Going through either a Ua 610 or a Apogeetrak2..

hey I have seen singers(James Hetfield of Metallica) in the studio tracking vocal takes without head phones and I want to do thid for my singer as well. he says the phones make him a little more uptight and to have a set of speakers playing at him would make it feel more like the band is in the room with him.

An earlier user wrote this down in one of my post.

You may want to look at the way you are summing your mix as well. Looks like you do it inside the Daw.

Take a look at the API or Dangerous Music Summing BUS RAck Stuff. That can really open up the mix and make it sound bigger and more natural.

Ok I've been reading a lot on RO with regards to preamps and compressors. I am pretty set on getting a Focusrite ISA 428 for the front end of my daw. @ $1600 it doesn't leave me much room for buying a compressor, so I think I want the RNC 1773 to go with it. One day I would like to get a red 3 compressor, but right now I'm just about spent up.
Anyways, any thoughts?
