BMI? ASCAP?
Forums
I have heard a lot about BMI and ASCAP, and that I need to sign up with them, but could somebody give me the exact definition of what these companies do? Why do I need to sign up with them? Is it easy? Is it free? Also which one is best? :D :D :D

Any advice for the ultimate beginner?
Forums
I'm an 18 year old singersongwriter and I'd like to know at least the basics of recording so that I can start getting my material together.
I have no idea if this is a hobby or what I want to do with my life, I just know it interests me more then what I'm doing at community college.

Free String Samples?
Forums
I'm looking for a free set of string (violin, cello, etc) samples with a similar format as the ns_kit set. Does anyone know of where I might be able to find those. Quality isn't an issue as they will be low in a project mix. Thanks a bunch.

The "Double vocal effect". .
Forums
How do i get that effect where the vocal sounds doubled on hooks of rap songs? when a voice is panned to the left as to the right and you can tell it is. I've tried panning the vocals hard left+hard right, but it just appears as a "whole" vocal. Any plugins that'll do the job? vst preferbly.

New Utility- A better option for BR-1600CD to WAV conversion
Forums
For all you BR-1600CD users that are interested:
My company purchased a BR-1600CD not long ago, and we were EXTREMELY dissapointed with the USB functionality and how incredibly slow and limited the entire "Export to WAV" functionality was.
Mackie preamps vs A&H
Forums
With GC offering the Mixwizard 16:2 for $800, my credit card is getting the urge to buy something - even though new mics are next on my "list", that mixer is tempting.
I currently have a pair of Mackie 1402s - a VLZ and a VLZ Pro. I use them primarily as a banks of mic preamps for on-site recording, coming out of the inserts into a MOTU 24i.
