DAvid Herbert: plugs used on Frank Black
Forums
This question is mainly directed to DAvid Herbert. I'm a very big pixies fan, and was wondering what are some of the plugins you used while working with Frank Black. My assistant told me you worked on some Metallica, which I assume is post Cliff Burton era? Any production method stories? What method's are taken in a typical Frank Black record? Straight to DAW?

2.) should i get a USB 2 or firewire external drive? (brand recs?)
3.) i have the Maudio USB Quattro - is there a better interface in the $300 price range for a laptop?

Hi Guys...
My BIGGG problem is that:
I do Big projects, like 40/50 tracks.. so i can't use low latencies, my buffer size is set up to 4096 and it's fine for me.. since i don't need any "real time" FX.. i don't use VSTis ( just record audio ) and don't need realtime effects 'cos i have my Yamaha 03D to do my GHOST reverbs/chorus/delays etc...

Is there a Standard, on CD, for setting up Monitor level
Forums
i'm talking about some kind of test tone, or test procedure, that will help line up balance and level for monitor playback?
seems i tripped across this info once in the past, and there was a link to where to purchase a CD for this purpose.
thanks

Lots of newb guitar recording questions
Forums
I've been recording guitars using the following setup -
surf guitar -> bug muff -> Behringer eurorack mx802a -> pc (Samplitude)
Somehow it doesn't sound quite as natural as I'd like it to. I've got a solid-state Peavey ~80W amp and a smaller Marshall 9v practice (toy) 'amp'.

Frequencies and the science of such
Forums
Hey all! I'm new here.
I have a few obscenely newbie questions. I've been recording at home for a few years now, but it's all been trial-and-error, with varying degrees of results.
pre-1) Does the site have an FAQ? Or can anyone recommend a few good FAQ URLs? I come from the world of linux/oss, so that's kind of how I'm used to learning on my own. ;-)

Mac Hardware Upgrading

Apple builds G4s with very little that's supposed to need to be upgraded. But what if you want a little more out of it? More power with stability.

Dyno becomes Dyno2
Forums
hello doc and forum explorers (this seems to be an area for the brave...)
this is Dyno2, an optimized and simpler (3 knobs only) version of my Dyno plugin for pc
this time controls are smoother and extreme settings are avoided.
