Tape Echo delemia
Hello all,
I recently recived some disturbing news, after looking into the very in-tree-ging Tube Echo unit built by Richard Beck in 1998, based on the famous Echoplex unit, (I have one from 1962!) called simply, "The Plex."

Modern Recording Techniques
Can anyone recommend a good book as a crash course in mixing/editing?
What about a website?
This site is good for specifics, but I am looking for something to give me the basics, something to build on.

chaining compressors - anyone actually doing it?
I am curious to know why there has been absolutely no discussion at recording.org on chaining multiple compressors in a row for individual tracks on mixdown. Does this mean that nobody is actually doing it?

Surround 'n' Round
Does anyone know if/how to get your Sonar recording to be at least 4 channel surround?
Any ideas would be sweet.
Latrz,

I have this thread in 2 other forums. I'll post whatever I find here, if the other threads yield anything. :D

800MHz Titanium Powerbook: I want In!
Hi folks, maybe somebody can help me out here.
If I was to run a Manley SLAM!, with it's optional
24bit 96kHz A/D card...and I was running Cubase VST 5.0 on the Powerbook (with it's 3.2 ratio screen yum!), what's the best way of getting my sound to the Mac? The SLAM doesn't use Firewire. It uses XLR's for AES/EBU I/O's.
Any clarity much appreciated.

I Can't help it
I was at the music store the other day, and mentioned to the salesperson that I use Sonar.
Now this guy started telling me that I would be better off with something more professional like Nuendo, or Logic.

Essential maintanence, or, "Don't forget to dust y
Open up those power supplys, clean off those heat sinks, unclog the fans, get out a can of Tetrafluoroethane Petroleum Hydrocarbon(compressed air duster), and clean those comps out! :D
