Cheapest place for empirical labs?
I'm going to be buying 2 distressors and a FATSO in the next week or two. The dealer I normally buy stuff from doesnt carry empirical labs but told me he could sell me a pair of trakkers for $3400. I've never heard the trakkers, so that worries me a little (even though I've heard they're amazing). Either way, anyone know of any place selling this stuff for cheap...

how do you 8 track?
OK - how do you do it? As this is my game here are my rules: 8 tracks of analog; rock band; DAT machine; decent mixing board with, say 16 channels; a handful of decent mics & pres and such (though I care less about specific gear and more about dealing with only 8 tracks).

Sample rates and latency in HD
I've gleaned from Greg and Nika that if the Digi interfaces are really top notch the sample rates for getting audio into PT should not make any difference.
As running sessions at 96kHz is best
for the plugin quality, it makes sense to record at 96kHz then, even though the audio sampled should sound the same at 48kHz - it saves upsampling.

Quality of Fairlight EQ. Any clues?
Hi folks. I'd previously looked at Fairlight stuff and thought it was pretty much too expensive for me. As it turns out possibly not.
A couple of comments on other posts here mentioned the quality of their EQ. Mostly positive. Anybody able to shed more light on this?
Also.

Source for 1" leader tape (timing marks, 3M type pr
Hi all.
I'm trying to source a roll or three of 1" leader.
I prefer the 3M stuff - it's self-stickiness is greate for tops and tails of the reel where it needs to "grip" the hub... my normal supplier can't get it (Quantegy isn't sourcing it from anyone I believe...)
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Anyone use a Blue Kiwi or Cactus?
If so, what did you think? Useful on what? What would you compare them to? I see a lot of talk about the Dragonflys and less expensive mics but nothing about the more expensive ones with the exception of the Bottle.

Pile of parts here now...
OK, so I have this big pile of computer parts littering my living room, as I am now putting together two audio computers, porting all my stuff from the POS house computer to my *old* audio computer, and getting my Mac all backed up and ready to give with a clean install to my brother in law. I will keep everyone posted on the builds.

I gained 10db headroom with new P4 system
Go figure. Over at seasoundaudio.com, we've been working collectively to write drivers and improve our Seasound Solo 24/96(SS went out of business, it was Tom Oberheim's company).
